January

The first month of the year in Copenhagen is among the coldest. Temperatures hover around freezing, with high humidity levels leading to lots of foggy days. You’ll want to bundle up, but this doesn’t necessarily mean snow gear. Copenhagen in January averages only 1.7 inches of precipitation, and with temperatures always in the range of freezing, but seldom much lower, you’re more likely to see rain than snow.

Copenhagen is a compact city. You’ll be able to walk all around it and see most everything there is to see, so be sure to bring heavy sweaters, a good jacket and scarf, and thermal underwear. An umbrella is a good idea.

The average high temperature in a Copenhagen January’s is º37 (F)/º2 (C). The average lows are º30/º-2, with the overall average temperature at º33/º0. Historically it’s gotten as warm as º51 (Fa), but don’t count on it. Every January in Copenhagen there’s an average of 19 days below freezing.
