Weather

Spring
Springtime in Copenhagen is absolutely beautiful with clear blue skies and crisp fresh air. The temperature varies from 5 to 15 degrees.

Summer
In the summertime temperatures go as high as 30 and as low as 10, usually the sea warms up around June/July but some summers are just rainy and grey all the way through.

Fall
The fall is great to visit Copenhagen, the temperatures are not too high, with an average of 10-15 degrees and the amount of rain is minimal.

Winters
Winters in Denmark are cold, from minus 5 to plus 5 degrees, and it will usually snow, hail and rain a lot. But a clear sunny day in February will make you forget all about the past five months of darkness and cold.

Weather and the mood of the people
In the wintertime the sun will rise around eight and set around three in the afternoon, so most working people don’t get a lot of sun exposure during the winter months. Danish people fight winter depressions with large amounts of alcohol, cake and greasy food.  Danes tend to stay in their houses in the wintertime and if you do happen to pass the occasional sad soul on the street, the chance of contact is minimal as people will be covered in hats, scarves and hoods.

The effect of the long dark winters is that the spring and summer time makes people jump out of their hives, go to beach parties, hang out on street corners and be friendly and open to others.

In the fall you’ll feel the desperation in people as they frantically insist to sit outside in the 10 degrees, because they want to suck up those very last rays of sun before winter begins.

When to visit?
In the summertime the best chance of sunshine days is August, and in the spring go for April or May, if you go in the fall come in September or October and if you can’t avoid going in the winter, come in December where the streets are decorated, the food lined up and the beer flows in the bars. As the tourist industry in Denmark is not that big prices basically stay the same throughout the seasons
