Copenhagen has plenty of options for the hungry and cash-strapped traveler with only a few euros in his pocket. The hotdog stands are traditional in Denmark and here you can get sausage in any kind of way, burgers, fries etc. There are also plenty of kebab- and pizza joints, centered around Nørrebro but with a couple in the city centre as well.

Hello,
I will be staying in Copenhagen soon on a very tight budget and was wondering if it would save us some money to buy some groceries at a market opposed to eating at restaurants? My travel partner and I will average about $84 per day after paying for our hostel. Any bright ideas to eat on that budget?

Syrah: You should have no problem getting Halal-kebabs in Copehagen. If you struggle, head for the Nørrebo-district where there are plenty of kebab places offering Halal-meat.

Sam: Yes, you will save a lot of money by buying from supermarkets. I should compile a price list of typical supermarket prices and publish it on the site, but I have not done it yet.
Typically you should be able to buy great quality bread for 15-20 DKK ($4), and ham, cheese etc. for 15-20 DKK for 100 grams, beers are 10-15 DKK, overall you should be able to get a great meal for the two of you for less than $15 if you buy through supermarkets.

Hi,
I’m just visiting Copenhagen for 4 days and would like to find out where I can get cheap meals preferably near the Strøget area. Especially local (Danish) food!
Thanks!

Hi!
I hope you enjoy your stay in Copenhagen!
The Strøget area is the most expensive area in Copenhagen so it will be difficult to get a decent priced meal. Your best option is to go to one of the posh supermarkets in the area and buy ingredients, a sandwich or something similar.
