Old town attractions

When you are visiting the old city of Copenhagen, you will want to check out these places of interest. There are a variety of different places to see while on your holidays however, these locations are at the top of your list of places to see and things to do while on vacation. Many of these locations are within a short distance of one another which helps to make it so that you can see more places during your vacation.

The first place that you will want to see while on your Copenhagen vacation is the Little Mermaid. This statue was first donated to the city by the Danish Brewer Carl Jacobsen. The Danish brewer had once seen the ballet, The Little Mermaid and would then have the statue created from the dancer who played the little mermaid, Ellen Price. The world famous fairy-tale would then be honoured with the statue. You can see the statue on the Copenhagen shore in Langelinje where it sits on a rock.

The Round Tower is located close to the middle of Copenhagen. The tower stands as one of a kind for its architecture. This tower was created in 1642 when it was ordered by King Christian IV who wanted to make sure to bring three of the most important features of the Copenhagen University to life. It was once only allowed to be visited by just school students but since then has been left open to others by allowing the public to visit the tower. The building is home to the University Library as well as an astronomical observatory and a student church. The old library can be seen above the church where the library once sat there is now an art gallery and concert hall. The spiral walkway around the inside of the tower can be travelled from the bottom all the way to the top where once at the top; you can enjoy a breath-taking view of the whole city of Copenhagen. The top sits at 105 feet above the ground.

The last place of interest that you will not want to miss out on while in the area is the Tivoli Gardens. This location is one of the best preserved amusement parks that still stand. The park first opened its doors in 1843. The park was built just outside of the city limits of Copenhagen but since it was built, the city has grown and has now surrounded the amusement park. The Tivoli Gardens is directly in the centre of town and across from the Central Station. While you are visiting the area, you can enjoy a stop at any of the outdoor stages that will feature live entertainment as well as being able to enjoy a cup of coffee from one of the many café’s. While looking for something to do at night, you will want to tour the area where every tree and bush is lit up. The park can be seen during the months of April to September and again in December when there is an annual Christmas market that can be visited.
