Brøndby
BIF was founded in 1964 and was the product of a merger between two formally amateur teams. By the late 1960s BIF upon hiring a new coach was promoted to the Zealand series and then finally the Denmark series. By the end of the 1970s BIF was promoted to the 2nd Division and finally in the early 1980s found themselves competitive in the 1st Division.
The Brøndby Stadium is the home for all of BIF’s games. Officially commissioned in 1965, the pitch has been the home for BIF ever since. It wasn’t until the 1970s and 80’s that significant infrastructure was added to the stadium so that 29,000 fans could attend. This occurred in 1982 and then in 1989 and 1990 when 2,000 seats were added above the track that surrounded the old field. By 1998 the stadium was purchased and completely modernized to as it stands today.
Brøndby Support are the fans for BIF and originated in 1987. There are roughly 12,000 associates and have a reputation for being remarkably outlandish in appearance and support of BIF. There is also a streak of hooliganism that has plagued the group for many years adding to the negative stigma that is usually attached to the loyal supporters of football clubs in Europe.
BIF has won 10 Danish Football Championship titles and 6 Danish Cups. They have also won the Danish League twice and the Danish Super Cup four times. In 1986, BIF had an astounding run in the UEFA Champions League reaching the Quarter Finals. Since then their best finish has been the Group Stage over a decade ago. They have participated in the UEFA Cup a total of 12 times and were Semifinalists in 1991. They have spent a remarkable 26 seasons total in the top Danish League called the Danish Superliga.
